MUTV Presidential Debate
Can you remember the last time there was an open debate about issues? I pushed for this. The debate was moderated by Zach Rossetti. The MUTV staff stayed extra hours on a Monday night to film this. I'd like to presonally thank them for their time.
This was the result of my chatting up one of the Senators before last weeks SGA meeting. The final product should be up soon on MUTV's facebook page. UPDATE: The videos are now up and available. Click on MUTV Presidential Debate above or the Media tab at the top of the screen.
Important Issues
We Need Transparency
We need minutes that are updated within 24-48 hours online and in a format that is easy to browse. Look at the site. The last post was Feb 29th as of today. The last minutes are of Feb. 9th. COF is a little better with minutes from Feb. 18th, just a month old.
Find minutesWe Need Accountability
Look at the posted hours. The president, vice president, and Treasurer need 10 hours a week. Other e-board members need five. Are they there? If so, why not?
Who holds them accountable? The Senators and Representatives? The faculty? The Advisors? The students?
Check posted hoursWe Need Representation
Do you feel SGA represents you? I don't think it does. We need more than just a few vocal clubs, fraternities, and sororities. Changes need to be made to foster participation. That starts with a president that extends a welcome hand.
We Need Fairness
With an organization that hasn't held elections in years, doesn't advertise when they do (until three days before), is comprised of mostly the same clubs, fraternities, and sororities, how can there be an expectation of fairness?
What checks and balances do we have? What happens when E-board members don't show up to meetings with the President, the committees they head, or events?
We Need Change
Real change and not just talking about it, but doing it.
How about having a candidate that isn't tied to a fraternity, sorority, or athletic team? A candidate that doesn't stack the E-board with friends. That's what you will get with me.
We Need Leadership
A leader is someone with a vision. Some who can inspire and communicate with others.
A leader is someone who can find what motivates students and get them to action.
A leader sets the tone for the rest of the group by example.
